EPISODE 31 Ji-ho sits in the closed pharmacy with Jung-in and explains that ever since Eun-woo was a baby, he’s had to bottle up his feelings to survive. Jung-in asks Ji-ho he ever thought of leaving Eun-woo and when he turns away, she breathes, “That’s insane.” Ji-ho explains that on the day that he got drunk he wasn’t able to successfully suppress his feelings. Jung-in gulps down her tea and tells Ji-ho, “A verbal apology is one thing, but that can’t be all. Let’s go.” Ji-hi sits across from Jung-in in his kitchen and does his best to explain away his drunken episode, “It was a mistake. Doesn’t that just make me human?” When Jung-in threatens to sign him up for a sober clinic, Ji-ho puts his pen to paper. Under Jung-in’s watchful eye, Ji-ho reluctantly writes, “No drinking allowed. Engagement with Jung-in to be broken off upon violation.” Jung-in smears lipstick on Ji-ho’s thumb so that he can affix his thumbprint and then posts the pledge on his refrigerator. During dinner, Chairman Kwon confronts Principal Lee, “So is your daughter going to marry my son or what?” Principal Lee explains that parents must respect the decisions of adult children, “That’s how I’ve treated my daughters all this time.” Ki-seok haltingly agrees with Principal Lee, “You’re right. Marriage should be our decision.” When Ki-seok announces that he and Jung-in will marry by the year’s end, Chairman Kwon and Principal Lee hide their surprise by emptying their cups. Over dinner at Ji-ho’s place, Jung-in admits that she always expected to get her mother’s support. Ji-ho appreciates how difficult it must have been for Jung-in’s mother to give him her approval, so he accepts that it will be harder for her father. Jung-in is touched when Ji-ho explains how he copes with her parents, “Because of you. You approve of me.” Both dads are drunk by the time that dinner is over and Chairman Kwon again asks if their kids are ever getting married. Chairman Kwon admits that he doesn’t trust his own son or Jung-in but he’s offended when Principal Lee confesses that he doesn’t trust Ki-seok either. The men argue about the kids and the dads are about to trade blows until Ki-seok and Chairman Kwon’s driver intervene. Ki-seok takes Principal Lee home and helps to get him into bed. He sits down with Jung-in’s mother and explains why he had dinner with his father and Principal Lee, “It’s about time we talked in detail about our wedding.” Ki-seok tells Jung-in’s surprised mother that he has to marry Jung-in because Ji-ho isn’t “decent” enough for her. Ki-seok shares that Ji-ho came to his workplace to threaten him with the photos and concludes that Ji-ho is after money. Mom scoffs in disbelief when Ki-seok promises to guide Jung-in back to her proper place. Ji-ho is at the pharmacy when Jung-in calls with the news that her mother asked for an official meeting. Ji-ho agrees but he asks if he can bring Eun-woo along as well. Jung-in can’t believe that she didn’t think of it herself and she readily agrees. When Jung-in tells her friends about the meeting, Ha-rin and Young-joo are impressed by Ji-ho’s bravery. Ha-rin teases that she should buy something at the pharmacy and Jung-in playfully quips, “Don’t forget your wallet.” Ji-ho visits his parents to discuss his meeting with Jung-in’s mother. They’re worried that Eun-woo’s presence will make Jung-in’s mother uncomfortable but they relax once they learn that Jung-in wants Eun-woo there. When Ji-ho leaves, his father praises him for being a great father and tells Ji-ho that he’s proud of him. After leaving Principal Lee’s house, Ki-seok goes to see his father. Chairman Kwon can’t understand how Ki-seok can marry a girl who’s with another man and wonders, “Can you still love her for the rest of your life?” Ki-seok insists that staying married is all that matters. Ki-seok blames his father for his failed relationship with Jung-in — he never approved of her, he took those photos and picked a fight with Principal Lee. Ki-seok is convinced that he has to force Jung-in to marry him in order to protect his father from Ji-ho’s threat. Hyun-soo is on the phone with Young-jae while waiting for the elevator at the bank, unaware that Ki-seok is right behind him. When Hyun-soo learns about the meeting with Jung-in’s mother, he exclaims, “We’ll see who marries after Ji-ho.” Ki-seok asks about Ji-ho and Hyun-soo has to explain, “Oh, it’s just I think he’s getting married soon.” Hyun-soo escapes into the elevator, leaving behind a stunned Ki-seok. Jae-in arrives at Seo-in’s place while Jung-in and Seo-in set aside baby gifts from Shi-hoon. Jae-in complains, “Showering you with baby gifts won’t change anything. How did he become a dentist with this level of stupidity?” When Jae-in blurts out, “You should’ve pressed charges that day,” Jung-in asks what she’s talking about. Jung-in refuses to be left in the dark, forcing Jae-in to reveal, “Shi-hoon assaulted Seo-in.” Shi-hoon sits in his office with Seo-in’s divorce petition in front of him. After a great deal of hesitation, Shi-hoon finally places his stamp on the form. Back at Seo-in’s place, a tearful Jung-in searches for Seo-in, who’s taken refuge in her bedroom. Jung-in hugs her sister tightly and when Jae-in joins them, the sisters all sob together. On the day of the meeting, Ji-ho’s mother and father watch happily as Ji-ho drives away with Eun-woo. Ji-ho joins up with Jung-in in the parking lot of the restaurant where they’re meeting and introduces himself to her mother. After greeting Eun-woo warmly, Jung-in introduces the little boy to her mother and sisters. During lunch, Jae-in confesses that she already knows Ji-ho quite well. Ji-ho asks her to be kind but Jae-in teases Jung-in, “How much is it worth?” Jung-in forgets all about Eun-woo when she pulls back her fist and threatens, “Do you want a piece of me?” After everyone laughs at Jung-in, Jae-in invites Eun-woo to play outside. Seo-in tells Ji-ho that she’ll need pointers as a single parent and he agrees to share what he’s learned, even though his parents raised Eun-woo. Seo-in has one question for Ji-ho, “What went through your mind as you handled it all?” Ji-ho explains his responsibility towards Eun-woo, “He’s living his life with only me to look up to, so I couldn’t crumble. The same goes for Jung-in. She’s putting her entire faith in me, so I’ll protect her no matter what.” Suddenly Jung-in, her mother and Seo-in are all weeping, moved by Ji-ho’s words. In a modest restaurant, Shi-hoon eats lunch accompanied by a couple of bottles of soju. Ki-seok happens to walk in and at the sight of Shi-hoon, he asks why he’s drinking in the middle of the day. Shi-hoon confesses that he’s getting divorced and blames Ki-seok, who failed to approve his loan. Over dessert, Jung-in’s mother confesses that she was flustered when she heard that Eun-woo was coming along but as a parent, she was touched. Ji-ho thanks Jung-in’s mother for her kind acceptance of him and Eun-woo. Jung-in’s mother warns Ji-ho, “…you have a long way to go to persuade Jung-in’s dad.” Ji-ho is prepared for that but he’s worried about Jung-in. Jung-in assures her mother and sisters, “We’ll get through it. We’ll wait for Dad to change his mind and accept Ji-ho.” Jung-in promises that she’ll be able to endure the challenging times, “…because I’ll have Ji-ho right by my side.” Ji-ho reaches over for Jung-in’s hand and when they smile at each other, Jung-in’s mother sheds more tears. EPISODE 32 Ki-seok has joined Shi-hoon for lunch and drunkenly complains, “Seriously, I never thought a loser like Yoo Ji-ho would…How dare she even compare me to Ji-ho?” Shocked that to hear that Ki-seok had a competitor, Shi-hoon regrets that he’s only hearing about it now, “You should’ve told me sooner…I would’ve told the entire family.” Shi-hoon comes up with a plan that he insists is a win-win for him and Ki-seok. Shi-hoon wants to inform Seo-in’s parents about the divorce, convinced that they’ll step in to delay it until after Jung-in and Ki-seok are married. That gives Shi-hoon time to fix his marriage. Even though he’s drunk, Ki-seok finally sees Shi-hoon clearly. Ki-seok stands up and after he slips on his shoes, he tells Shi-hoon, “Let’s just figure things out separately.” Ki-seok walks away and leaves Shi-hoon behind. Jung-in’s mother and sisters seem at peace after meeting Ji-ho. Seo-in added a photo of her and Eun-woo to the journal that she started for her baby. Written under the sonogram photo is Seo-in’s wish, “I hope you only see, listen, say and dream beautiful things.” Seo-in sits at her desk to add her version of Ji-ho’s words, “I promise you that I’ll protect you forever.” Jung-in’s mother smiles as she strolls down a street lined with shops while Jae-in drinks beer with Young-jae by the river. He asks what she’s thinking about and Jae-in confesses, “The reason I came back to Korea,” which she just realized had nothing to do with her studies. Stopped at a light on the drive home, Ji-ho confesses that he can’t believe that this day actually came. Eun-woo asks, “Are you and Ms. Lee getting married?” When Ji-ho answers, “Yes,” Eun-woo wants to know, “Then, is she going to be my mom?” Ji-ho and Eun-woo smile when Jung-in answers the young boy, “Yes, I’ll be your mom.” Surprisingly, Pharmacist Wang isn’t thrilled with Ji-ho’s good news, “You’d better not get married. I won’t go to your wedding or give you a money gift.” Ye-seul guesses that Pharmacist Wang is worried that Ji-ho will quit so he promises that he’ll remain at the pharmacy, no matter where he lives. When Pharmacist Wang asks Ji-ho to sign a pledge, he escapes to the back room. Ye-seul is amused that Ji-ho is taking his pledge so seriously but Pharmacist Wang reminds her, “He’ll be such a sucker for his wife.” Principal Lee visits Chairman Kwon’s office and both men apologize for their drunken behavior. Chairman Kwon takes the opportunity to offer Principal Lee a director position once he retires but Principal Lee asks for some time to think about it. At the library, Jung-in ducks into the break room to answer a call from her father, who asks, “Is there no chance for you and Ki-seok anymore?” Jung-in knows that her father’s heart aches whenever he sees Seo-in and promises that if he’s patient, he’ll soon see her living happily. When Principal Lee leaves the school for the day, he walks away with heavy footsteps. Chairman Kwon is at home when Principal Lee calls but he doesn’t answer his phone. Instead, Chairman Kwon calls Ki-seok and tells his son, “You’ve done more than enough.” Jung-in is alone at home when Ki-seok texts her, “I’m sorry about everything.” Ji-ho arrives at his place with Hyun-soo and Young-jae, who are laden with drinks and snacks. Ji-ho makes it clear to his friends that they must leave after watching the soccer game. Young-jae explains that Jung-in won’t let Ji-ho drink and Hyun-soo complains, “She has him wrapped around her finger.” Ji-ho does try not to drink that night but he can’t resist. He calls Jung-in as she’s going to bed, claiming that his friends left after the game. Jung-in thinks that Ji-ho sounds down because he couldn’t drink but he explains that it’s because he’s already in bed. Ji-ho tells Jung-in, “I love you,” before hanging up. When Ji-ho walks out of his bedroom, Hyun-soo and Young-jae praise him for successfully fooling Jung-in. Ji-ho feels guilty and is about to call Jung-in to confess that they’ve been drinking but Young-jae takes his phone and pushes Ji-ho back into his bedroom. Hyun-soo uses Ji-ho’s phone to order delivery while Ji-ho is trapped. Young-joo pokes her head out of her window when she hears deliverymen running up and down the stairs. Jung-in wakes up when she gets a text from Young-joo, “Is Ji-ho having a housewarming party today?” In the morning, a taxi drops Jung-in off at Ji-ho’s place. She finds Ji-ho, Hyun-soo and Young-jae sprawled out in the living room littered with empty beer cans and soju bottles. She opens the door and slams it, waking up Young-jae who then wakes up Ji-ho. Ji-ho mumbles that they didn’t drink..that much. Jung-in pulls Ji-ho’s pledge from the refrigerator but Ji-ho stops her before she can leave. Ji-ho isn’t the only one in trouble. Jae-in is at Seo-in’s place but that doesn’t stop her from shouting into her phone, “Young-jae, are you not going to study? I’m really going to break up with you if you don’t pass the exam again.” Back at his place, Ji-ho kneels in front of an angry Jung-in. Ji-ho argues that Jung-in is being too harsh and when she doesn’t relent, he claims, “My stomach is upset.” Jung-in has to stifle a smile before asking Ji-ho if he got that move from Eun-woo. Ji-ho promises that he’ll never drink again but that’s not why Jung-in is angry. Jung-in wants an explanation for all of the lies he told her when he called and Ji-ho admits, “I didn’t want to be scolded.” When Jung-in asks, “Did you really think you could fool me,” Ji-ho smiles and admits, “Yes.” Once Jung-in laughs, Ji-ho turns on the charm, “Forgive me just this one time.” Jung-in agrees but she grabs the pledge and informs Ji-ho, “I won’t marry you though.” Jung-in tries to escape to Ji-ho’s bedroom but Ji-ho is right behind her. Jung-in jumps onto the bed to keep the pledge away from Ji-ho but soon they collapse onto the bed where they laugh and kiss. Jung-in exits the flower shop next-door to Ji-ho’s parents’ house and asks Ji-ho if she looks all right. Ji-ho has never seen Jung-in so nervous but she’s worried, “What if they won’t let me marry you?” When Ji-ho’s parents greet them, Jung-in hands his mother a bouquet and an excited Eun-woo jumps into her arms. Jung-in’s mother is on the phone with Seo-in, discussing Jung-in’s meeting with Ji-ho’s parents, but she hangs up when her husband walks in. Jung-in’s mom sees how low her husband is feeling and suggests how they should deal with their daughters from now on, “Let’s neither expect too much from them nor pressure them in any way. Let’s be that kind of parents.” When Jung-in’s father sighs heavily, Jung-in’s mother invites him out for a nice dinner. Ji-ho’s father can’t take his eyes off of Jung-in as she looks up dinosaurs with Eun-woo. Jung-in perks up when Ji-ho’s father asks if she drinks but when he offers something to Ji-ho, she announces that he quit drinking. Ki-seok across from the assemblyman’s daughter in a restaurant. She asks Ki-seok when he had his last relationship but he answers that he doesn’t remember. When asked if he’s interested in marriage, Ki-seok answers, “Obviously, that’s why I’m here.” Ki-seok adds, “I was just thinking that I’m glad I decided to come here today,” but when the assemblyman’s daughter isn’t looking, his smile fades. After putting Eun-woo to bed, Ji-ho rejoins the party and recognizes that Jung-in has had a lot to drink. Eager to put Ji-ho’s parents at ease, Jung-in promises, “We’ll be considerate of each other and be happy together. And I’ll do my best to be a good mom to Eun-woo.” When his mother starts to cry and his father has to look away, Ji-ho takes Jung-in’s hand and nods approvingly. In the morning, Jung-in wakes up in Eun-woo’s bed and moans, “Oh, no.” She grabs her phone to call Ji-ho, who’s been watching her through the door. When Ji-ho walks in, he has to explain that he couldn’t take Jung-in home because she insisted on staying there for the night. Ji-ho teases a worried Jung-in that his mother is angry, “She said she can’t let you marry me.” Ji-ho adds that on the other hand, his father is thrilled that he has a new drinking buddy. When Jung-in asks how to sneak out, Ji-ho hands her some paper and Jung-in suddenly complains that her stomach hurts. Jung-in can’t keep from laughing when Ji-ho insists that she has to write down her pledge. At her place, Jung-in grabs a water bottle from her refrigerator where Ji-ho’s amended pledge is posted, “I will never lie. Engagement with Jung-in to be broken off upon violation.” Jung-in’s pledge is posted on Ji-ho’s refrigerator, “I, Lee Jung-in will marry Yoo Ji-ho no matter what. If not, I’ll stay single forever.” Jung-in smiles when Ji-ho texts her at work, “Thank you for coming to me.” Ji-ho is just as happy when Jung-in texts back, “Spring brought you to me.” It’s dark when Jung-in passes by the street crew working outside the pharmacy. Jung-in recreates their first meeting when she asks Ji-ho if he has medicine for hangovers. Ji-ho offers to open the medicine for her, but warns, “I don’t do it for women who brought their wallets.” They both laugh when the jackhammer starts up. Ji-ho needs to finish before he can leave and while Jung-in waits, she gets a text. When she looks for Ji-ho, he pulls her into the back room and they pass by the doorway many times, hugging, laughing and kissing. COMMENTS I’m so grateful that One Spring Night didn’t let its viewers down, concluding with a very sweet and satisfying ending. The finale mirrored the relationship between Jung-in and Ji-ho, it was committed to the pair at the heart of this drama to the end. Honestly, I want to go back and watch it all over again. One Spring Night tackled so many difficult subjects but it never felt too heavy. That’s in large part due to the well defined characters who were at the center of the controversies, especially the Lee sisters. They are three loving sisters who inspire and uplift one another through the tough times and together, they look forward to a more promising future with a new generation. Even though she didn’t explain it, I’m positive that Jae-in returned to Korea because she missed her sisters. While Jung-in’s and Ji-ho’s commitment to each other and to Eun-woo is undeniably solid, there are lots of adjustments to be made as they face marriage and become a family of their own. Like many bachelors, Ji-ho has to learn how to behave with his friends so as not to cause problems on the home front. Since Ji-ho is the first one in his circle to settle down, neither he nor his friends have any experience with that so it was only a matter of time before they would clash with Jung-in. What’s funny is that Jung-in has similar struggles and Ji-ho is more than happy to point that out, as evidenced by the two pledges. There’s no doubt that Jung-in will be a demanding wife, she’s admitted as much, but only someone with such a strong personality would be able to defy established norms and date a single father. Ji-ho’s calmness helps to temper Jung-in’s feistiness and they continue to prove what a good match they are. Jung-in’s mother and sisters got to see this firsthand when they met formally which is why there were so many tears and a sense of peace in the aftermath. Jung-in may not have made as strong of a positive impression on Ji-ho’s parents thanks to her overindulgence, but her love for Eun-woo buys a great deal of goodwill. So now, we launch these characters into the future. It’s a given that Ji-ho and Jung-in will get married and that Eun-woo will now have a mother of his own plus a loving maternal grandmother and some pretty awesome aunts. Young-jae had better pass his civil exam if he wants to continue his relationship with Jae-in, who’s easy, breezy attitude has morphed into Jung-in’s toughness. Seo-in finally got her divorce and now everyone in her family knows what a brute Shi-hoon really is. Sadly, Shi-hoon hasn’t changed a bit, but surprisingly, Ki-seok has. Thanks to Shi-hoon, Ki-seok finally saw how pitiful it was to cling to someone who has moved on and he accepted that his future doesn’t include Jung-in. I found it really hard to watch the breakup of Jung-in’s father, Principal Lee, and Chairman Kwon. It honestly broke my heart. These two men, who had gotten used to each other over the years, realized how much they meant to each other as their children’s relationship fell apart. Principal Lee really wanted to work with Chairman Kwon after he retires and I believe that was in part because they’re so used to each other. And Chairman Kwon, as much as he may have disapproved of Jung-in in the beginning, he sincerely appreciated her qualities and envisioned a future with her and a continued future with her father. When Principal Lee walked away from the school after his conversation with Jung-in, it was clear that he had accepted that his relationship with Chairman Kwon would be a casualty of Ki-seok’s and Jung-in’s breakup. What I appreciated the most about Jung-in and Ji-ho’s relationship was its focus on simple, stolen moments of happiness with the right person by your side. That’s the goal, to go through the ups and downs of life with your best friend while being good to each other. I can imagine Jung-in and Ji-ho growing old together, surrounded by loving family and friends. I can’t ask for anything more. I was a single dad before so I can relate to the main character in someways. I really felt touched in someways because I know the feeling of being a single dad being scared to commit to someone after having a previous bad relationship. I think what actually made me get emotional in a way was when the main character tell his story of his previous relationship to his new girlfriend and how the mother of his child ran away. I have felt this feeling as well before and it touched me because it's a feeling that will never go away. What's funny about this is that I met my wife in a library which is what made me happy about this because my wife worked part time at the university we went to as a cashier. I'm not really into love story shows but when I saw my wife watching it reminded me of us in a way. I really enjoyed the show it was great 31, 2019Contribute to this pageSuggest an edit or add missing contentWhat is the Brazilian Portuguese language plot outline for One Spring Night 2019?AnswerEdit pageAdd episodeMore to exploreRecently viewedYou have no recently viewed pages JungHae-in can't control his excitement as he heads home to Han Ji-min, who greets him in an unexpected way 💗Subscribe to The Swoon: 52 June 7, 2019June 7, 2019 One Spring Night Episodes 9-10 by abirdword So many feelings. Our young pharmacist does his best to bury his deep inside, while our librarian starts to realize that holding them back is what has been making her miserable all along. But holding back or moving forward, everyone is consumed with the ache of distance as they try to sort everything out. Except for maybe our pharmacist’s rival Ki-seok. That guy has plenty of angst to contend with as well in this hour, but his is more about avoidance than any realizations. EPISODE 9 Sitting in the car, Ji-ho promises Jung-in that he won’t let her see his feelings, just as long as he can still see her. Jung-in scoffs that the idea of him watching her secretly is ridiculous, but as she keeps talking, it sounds like her real issue is that she wants to know that Ji-ho is admiring her. Not just that, but Jung-in asks if she should get Ji-ho’s permission so that she can watch him in secret as well, basically admitting that she’s drawn to him just as much as he is to her. She calls him selfish, and Ji-ho asks if he should allow himself to be truly selfish. But Jung-in squashes the rising emotions with a firm “no.” Ji-ho rolls out of the car and leans against his car, taking a breath of the night air to calm down. Meanwhile, Ki-seok is still out with the guys and gives Jung-in a call. She’s his number one on speed dial, but she doesn’t pick up his call. Ji-ho drives Jung-in home, and as they arrive, Ji-ho says that they should end things there. Jung-in presses him on it, how she’s not going to buy his lie that this is all his fault for falling for her fleeting feelings too fast. At their home, Jung-in’s parents argue as they get into bed. Dad insists that putting pressure on Jung-in is the right thing to do, while Mom stands firm in her defence of her daughter and her right to make her own decisions. The next day, Jung-in catches her Mom on the way out of her calligraphy class. While Mom defended her the night before, she still plays cold towards her daughter until Jung-in apologizes for hiding Jae-in’s return. As they sit together in an empty auditorium in the school building, Mom shares that Seo-in also got upset during a recent visit. Jung-in quickly asks what Seo-in had to say, but diverts her eyes when Mom asks if she knows something. Jung-in asks her mother what kind of guy she should marry. Mom asks about Ki-seok, and says that it’s not easy to sever such a bond with someone you’ve known for so long. Even so, Mom’s words are that you can’t control what the heart wants. As the week continues, Jung-in and her colleagues continue to prep for the upcoming book event and are working on a theme. Jung-in suddenly blurts, “Unexpectedly You,” and presents it as a way to encourage new participants who may have shied away from the event previously. Jung-in starts to back down on the concept, but Young-joo and Ha-rin love the idea. While Jung-in is having creative breakthroughs at work, others are having less success. Ji-ho seems more and more consumed by his frustration while he works, and Seo-in turns down the offer for a new show. Her boss can’t understand why she wouldn’t go for it, and Seo-in manages to stay firmly silent as he badgers her with questions. Meanwhile, Shi-hoon has found his new, larger dental office. He’s excited that all the equipment in the office will come with it, and brushes aside the real estate agent’s efforts to warn him that because this is a new building, the rent will be very costly. Shi-hoon just wants to know when he can sign the lease. After work, Ki-seok and Jung-in go out for dinner together, and Jung-in asks if Ki-seok has seen Shi-hoon recently. When Ki-seok mentions the loan, Jung-in tells him to stay away from Shi-hoon and find an excuse to deny the loan. She won’t elaborate on why though, so of course Ki-seok mentions that Shi-hoon said that he would support their marriage. It is definitely the wrong thing to say, and Jung-in gives him a hard stare. Ki-seok presses, and Jung-in asks what his parents think about them getting married. Ki-seok asks if she’ll accept his proposal if he gets that all straightened out, and Jung-in asks if he just doesn’t want to lose this argument. Ki-seok retorts that it’s not like Jung-in lets him win all the time anyway. Jung-in says that she dreads spending time with Ki-seok lately, because it always turns into a fight, and she blames herself for it. Jung-in waits outside as Ki-seok pays the bill, and Ki-seok walks past her without a glance as he tells her to get in the car. Now Jung-in is angry, and she lets all of the pent-up anger out. She yells at Ki-seok about how she knows his parents don’t approve of her, and how frustrated she is that while Ki-seok knows this, he just ignores how that might make her feel. Jung-in says she’s never pestered him to get married, and she hoped only that he would understand her and her feelings. Ki-seok tries to comfort Jung-in, but she’s too riled up and walks home by herself. And now it’s time for a misery montage! The night hasn’t ended well for anyone really, and we see Jung-in curled on her couch, Ki-seok in his car still outside the restaurant, and Ji-ho in his apartment wrestling with his thoughts. At the pharmacy the next morning, Ji-ho is thrown by a woman asking for hangover medicine. All he can think about is his first encounter with Jung-in, and his fellow pharmacist has to take over while he heads to the back room the gather himself. His older coworker Pharmacist Wang arrives with a bag of clothes for Eun-woo. She asks about the girl Ji-ho is obviously pining over, and he tells her that he ended it, because “he was too good for her.” Pharmacist Wang gives him a playful slap to the shoulder and sends him back out front. At the school, Jung-in’s dad is busy slashing the budget for books and other “unnecessary” things when Chairman Kwon turns up. The chairman inquires after Jung-in’s library job, and then asks what Jung-in is good at. Dad vaguely boasts that Jung-in is good at a lot of things, but the chairman seems pretty unconvinced. They take this conversation to lunch, but first Chairman Kwon fields a call from his son, telling Ki-seok to hurry up and get married. Once the chairman ends the call, Dad continues to praise Jung-in and says that she’s very loyal and would never betray anyone. The chairman warns Dad not to trust her just because she’s his daughter. Meanwhile, Jung-in and Young-joo with coffee in the library stacks, and Jung-in quietly announces, “I’m going to break up with Ki-seok.” Young-joo is stunned that Jung-in’s feelings for the pharmacist are that strong. Young-joo says that Jung-in won’t be able to break up with Ki-seok, because Ki-seok won’t let her. She says that maybe if there wasn’t another guy, it would just fade away. But with a third-party, it will become about winning and pride. Jung-in says that while she does like Ji-ho, she’s not sure if she has a chance with him either. Young-joo asks her to explain, and Jung-in promises to do so later, with a sigh. EPISODE 10 Ji-ho’s parents are busy at their business, though Mom may be more preoccupied with setting Ji-ho up with their single mom neighbor than she is with laundry. The bus arrives with Eun-woo, who asks about when his dad will be around so they can go to the library again. Mom presses about what’s at the library, and Eun-woo admits that there’s a teacher there who knows his dad. Ji-ho is out for chicken and beer with Hyun-soo, the conversation about dating and work. Hyun-soo brings up how attractive Ki-seok’s girlfriend is again, and then says that he heard they’re getting married, but he doesn’t think Ki-seok actually wants to. Ji-ho’s hackles raise as he gets defensive. “Why are they still together then? And what does that make her?” Hyun-soo doesn’t get why Ji-ho is so interested, and segues on to mention that he can’t get ahold of their friend Young-jae. Ji-ho tells Hyun-soo to leave the guy alone while he studies. Cut to Young-jae, who is indeed busy studying eating dinner with Jae-in. He asks Jae-in what she plans to do when she eventually has to find a job, and Jae-in lists her many capabilities, including French, English, and piano. On the tv overhead, Seo-in’s news program comes on, and Jae-in asks Young-jae what he thinks of the newscaster. She’s immediately sulky when Young-jae says that Seo-in is his ideal type, sophisticated and elegant. Jae-in huffs over to get the bill. Outside, Young-jae finally checks his phone and sees all the messages from Hyun-soo. Jae-in wants to join him and Ji-ho for drinks, but Young-jae is worried they’ll speculate that they’re more than just friends. Jae-in swears that she’ll profess that she’s there to see Ji-ho, but Young-jae says he’s pretty sure that the guy has fallen hard for someone else already. So Jae-in goes home instead, and promptly reports this news of a mysterious love interest to Jung-in, who is picking at her late dinner. Jung-in slips up and asks Jae-in why she’s so interested in “Ji-ho shi,” and Jae-in notes the unexpected familiarity. Jung-in diverts the conversation by warning Jae-in to behave, and Jae-in growls over her shoulder that she misses her fearless sister. Ki-seok meets with Shi-hoon to relay the news that his loan has been denied. Shi-hoon is all smiles, telling Ki-seok that it’s no big deal, he can just afford to do it in cash. Ha. But then Shi-hoon starts back with his intentions to support Ki-seok and Jung-in’s marriage, and it’s clear that the latest confrontation with Jung-in is on his mind as Ki-seok pulls the paperwork back and offers to take another look at it. After Ki-seok walks Shi-hoon to his car, he receives a text from Jung-in. “We need to talk,” it reads, and Ki-seok curses to himself as he walks back inside. Yeah, need-to-talk texts are never good. Seo-in arrives at Shi-hoon’s dental office at closing time. The receptionists are on their way out, and Seo-in asks one of the girls to pick up some stomach medicine for her. Once they’re gone, Seo-in heads back to Shi-hoon’s office and throws his mail on the desk in front of him. She tells him to hurry up and take care of his loan, and demands his legal seal so that she can sell the apartment. Shi-hoon rises to strike Seo-in, and she runs for the doors. He pursues her and grabs her, but they’re interrupted by the receptionist returning with Seo-in’s medicine, thank goodness. The workday is ending for Jung-in as well. She checks her texts and sees that Ki-seok is avoiding the conversation that she wants to have. Young-joo wishes her friend luck. But Jung-in is tired of waiting, and so she calls Ji-ho on her way out. But Ji-ho is busy with laundry at home and doesn’t pick up. Jung-in heads to his building, seeing the lights on in his apartment. She calls again, but no answer. And so she climbs the stairs of the building, the overhead fluorescents lighting the way as she climbs to Ji-ho’s front door. Ji-ho comes out to talk to her in the hallway. He asks if something happened, and she asks him if she’s the only one having a hard time with this. She asks if she’s annoying, and Ji-ho gruffly says, “Yes, you are.” He goes on, saying that they should just be strangers to one another, and Jung-in reaches out and silences him, her hand pressed against his mouth. She starts to cry as she pulls her hand away, and Ji-ho shifts uncomfortably before suggesting that they go get something to eat. They head to a nearby restaurant and are seated even though it’s closing time. Ji-ho recommends what’s good, but Jung-in notes that he’s not eating. Ji-ho admits that he’s actually already had dinner. Jung-in continues to badger him, asking if she’s a loser and a burden to him, and Ji-ho agrees, though it’s clear there’s no heart in it, only restraint. Jung-in asks if the coffee shop they went to previously is still open, and Ji-ho asks, “Aren’t you going home?” Jung-in gives him a sideways look as she asks if she can stay at his place if the answer is no. They sit across from one another at the coffee shop now. Jung-in persists with her line of questions and Ji-ho holds his front, asking why Jung-in can’t understand that this entire evening is torture for him. Jung-in asks why she should care. But it seems more flirty than anything else, and when Ji-ho calls her mean, she says that he’ll be seeing it a lot more now that her true troublemaker self has resurfaced. Ji-ho asks her to please help him be strong and not selfish, and when Jung-in asks why, he answers that she’s too good for him, which gives her pause. In the end, Ji-ho drives Jung-in home. As she walks away, Ji-ho can’t help but watch her. Then he folds over on his car, bracing himself against his emotions. Just at that moment though, Jae-in and Young-jae arrive and ask what Ji-ho is doing in the neighborhood. Jung-in is so distracted inside, she misses the elevator and has to call for it again. While she waits, Jae-in catches up and mentions that she saw Ji-ho outside and wanted to invite Young-jae in, but she knew her sister wouldn’t like it. Jung-in says that she’s not so uptight, and so Jae-in skips off to invite both men up for a drink. This sends Jung-in racing to her apartment, desperate to clean and hide away things before everyone gets upstairs. She picks up the framed picture of her and Ki-seok, and then flips it over, ha. Jae-in leads the guys upstairs, but isn’t impressed with Jung-in’s offer of tea. It seems that Jung-in polished off all the booze in the house, so Jae-in grabs Young-jae and they head out to get more alcohol, leaving Ji-ho and Jung-in alone. The two can’t help but laugh at the ridiculousness of it all, but their smiles fade slowly as Jung-in’s phone begins to buzz on the table. It’s clear that it must be Ki-seok, and Jung-in answers it, her eyes not straying from Ji-ho. Ki-seok asks what she wanted to talk about. “Let’s break up,” she says, and Ji-ho looks at her, his eyes wide.  COMMENTS The buzz of a vibrating phone ringing phone has never been so ominous. I was filled simultaneously with so much hope and dread, and I was so pleased to see that rather than letting it kill the revived mood, Jung-in moved forward and stuck to her plan. We’ve been hearing so much about the fearless Jung-in who doesn’t back down from what she wants. And I think we’ve seen the first real move towards that true self right here. Or perhaps her fight with Ki-seok outside the restaurant was the first hint that a big change was brewing for Jung-in. Her go-to so far has been the meaningful stare, so I was startled to see her yelling so emotionally in the street. I think Ki-seok was too, because he moved immediately to comfort rather than to fight back. But was Jung-in’s explosion at Ki-seok rooted in real feelings, or is this an excuse, a front to cover up the other things? I’ve kind of believed that Jung-in didn’t really care about what Ki-seok’s parents thought of her, but perhaps that is part of the mask she’s been wearing all this time, and we’re seeing feelings that have been festering for years. It’s interesting because honestly, I’m not sure that I see Chairman Kwon as opposed to Jung-in as a daughter-in-law. He doesn’t necessarily see it as advantageous and would probably be a terribly condescending in-law, but really I just get the impression that the guy just wants his son married. It makes you wonder what Jung-in found appealing in a boring life for so long. Her sister calls her fearless, her mother tells stories of hunger strikes. It’s seeming more and more like Jung-in’s “I don’t like adventure” line is a lie. So how did she get here? Did it happen naturally, some sort of life entrophy that got her here? Did something happen when she and Ki-seok met, that made her want to settle into dullness? I can’t help but think about Ki-seok’s dad’s comment, about how Ki-seok quit music when he met Jung-in. It feels like this relationship has sucked the creativity right out of the pair, possibly from the very start. Because Jung-in isn’t just experiencing changes in her romantic feelings. She’s also experiencing a creative revival at work, and her friends are noticing the positive changes in her as well. It’s seeming more and more like these two, individually, are not bland or boring at all. But their union has somehow fostered this dull, sepia existence for them. And oh Ki-seok, actively avoiding what he knows is coming. I think he was hoping that Jung-in would just be too tired to break up with him if he called late enough in the evening. I appreciate though that while Ki-seok won’t admit himself that he doesn’t want to get married, at least his friends recognize it. They only see the surface of things, but Ki-seok can’t even get himself to that point quite yet. On to other disintegrating relationships, I’m so proud of Seo-in in this episode. Seo-in wore battle armor to her confrontation with Shi-hoon, and I loved it. She’s ususally dressed in soft whites and pastels for work, so I screamed in joy when I saw her in that dark power suit at the dental office. And while it didn’t stop Shi-hoon’s bad behavior, because honestly nothing short of prison is going to stop this jerk, it still gave Seo-in the courage to face him anyway. I’m also glad that Seo-in stood up for herself and didn’t take the new job assignment. Society may see this as weakness, as letting things get in her way. But I see it as her standing up to the world’s expectations, and recognizing that success and happiness aren’t just measured in workplace ascension. It’s not that Seo-in doesn’t want this show. It’s that she knows that she has too much on her plate already, and she knows that she needs to put her safety first. And then there’s Jae-in. I’ve been thinking about Jae-in for a while, probably because I know so many Jae-in’s. They’re talented and friendly with so many people, and that puts people at ease. But I’m worried that Jae-in might have a hard time recognizing the value she has if she isn’t in a relationship. She had a long list of talents to tell Young-jae about, but then she immediately focused the conversation on her desirability, and felt like she was seen as less than her upstanding sister. It feels like as much as she is a free spirit, she might need the attention from Young-jae too much. We’ll have to wait and see how far we take Jae-in’s story, but I think the happiest ending might be for Jae-in to find a fulfilling job and not be so concerned with the men in her life and their validation. The beginning of the episode starts with Ji-ho’s promise that he won’t let Jung-in see him watching her, and he ultimately holds that promise up. He stays strong against all of her efforts… right up until she turns her back on him to go inside her building. And then it’s here, where Ji-ho’s face softens as he watches her, letting out just a little bit of his emotions. He can’t help indulge in them, but he’s determined not to interfere with Jung-in’s life. Thankfully, it’s officially too late for that. Jung-in has made her first bold move, and I can only assume that Ki-seok’s response will be to drive over to Jung-in’s apartment as quickly as he can so that they can talk in person. Jae-in and Young-jae will be totally oblivious and eagerly welcome Ki-seok in and then… I can only imagine. I really have no clue whether we’ll introduce Ji-ho as a known rival so soon, or if we’ll let it build slowly. But eventually we’re going to get a really intense game of basketball, right? When the ex-boyfriend tries to make his marriage plans official, he pushes our kind and patient pharmacist too far and the battle lines become clearer. Even though our lead couple’s friends may be confused by the latest development, our librarian couldn’t be more certain about her choice and she makes a move that leaves no doubt in her man’s mind. EPISODE 23 Jung-in enters Chairman Kwon’s house and thanks him for seeing her. When she sits down, Chairman Kwon repeats that he wishes that they’d met sooner and Jung-in graciously observes, “It’s all in the past.” When Chairman Kwon wonders, “Is that how it’ll be,”Jung-in informs him that she hasn’t changed her mind, impressing her host yet again. While they wait for a taxi after dinner, a drunk Principal Lee urges Ki-seok to stay focused on marriage, especially now that he’s secured the blessings of both fathers. Principal Lee tells Ki-seok that he can’t wait until he officially becomes his son-in-law. Jung-in asks Chairman Kwon to convince her father to give up on the marriage and when he hesitates, she’s blunt, “There is no future for me and Ki-seok. I don’t want there to be one.” Jung-in doesn’t answer when Chairman Kwon asks if there’s someone else, even when he promises not to hold it against her. Chairman Kwon says he understands Jung-in and offers to give her all the time that she needs. When Jung-in insists that she no longer has feelings for Ki-seok, Chairman Kwon dismisses the problem, “No one’s sure of their feelings. They can always change.” After her visit, a frustrated Jung-in walks away from the house while Chairman Kwon retrieves the surveillance photos and zeroes in on one of Ji-ho and Eun-woo. Jung-in texts Ji-ho, “I’m too exhausted, so…I’ll talk to you tomorrow,” and when she gets home, she ignores Jae-in and falls onto her bed. The next day, Ki-seok is surprised to find Chairman Kwon’s driver waiting to deliver an envelope. When Ki-seok sees the surveillance photos, he realizes that his father knows the truth. Later that morning, Chairman Kwon is surprised when his maid reports that there haven’t been any calls while Ki-seok sits at home, trying to decide what to do. During a brief stop at Ji-ho’s place, Hyun-soo asks what Jung-in had to say about her father’s meeting with Ki-seok. After he leaves, Ji-ho calls Jung-in, who’s still in bed. She jokes that she’s causing trouble and sits up in alarm when Ji-ho teases, “You already did that yesterday.” When asked what happened, Jung-in admits that she doesn’t want to talk about it and Ji-ho is understanding, as usual. Jung-in grumbles that compared to Ji-ho, she’s the anxious and impatient one. Worried that he hasn’t provided her with enough certainty, Ji-ho asks, “Would you like to meet my parents?” Jung-in’s eyes widen in shock and when Ji-ho teases that he’d like to see the look on her face, Jung-in deadpans, “I’m unfazed.” Jung-in is even more anxious but Ji-ho assures her that his parents are nice people. Jung-in envies him but Ji-ho is quick to explain that when he looks at her, he can tell that Jung-in’s parents are nice too. Jung-in heard about the advice that Jae-in gave Ji-ho and he admits, “I’ve already been bracing myself. Besides, I’m too happy right now to rush into anything in a hurry.” Ji-ho can’t help but smile when Jung-in disagrees, “Not me. I want you badly.” Shi-hoon pays his in-laws a surprise visit and shocks them when he kneels down and admits that it’s his fault that Seo-in wants a divorce. Before his mother-in-law can interrupt, Shi-hoon tells Principal Lee that he was drunk when he hit Seo-in during an argument. Shi-hoon weeps and begs his father-in-law to intervene, “I can’t live without Seo-in.” Jung-in’s mother can’t believe it when her husband bellows, “A divorce is just absurd!” Young-joo is waiting outside when Jung-in arrives to spend time with her friend before her date with Ji-ho. As they’re about to leave for lunch, Eun-woo runs up excitedly, “Ms. Lee!” Ji-ho’s mother asks how Jung-in knows Eun-woo and guesses that she’s the teacher from the library. Before Mom gets the wrong idea, Young-joo explains, “I’m her friend and I coincidentally happen to live on the second floor.” Eun-woo pulls his grandmother inside and when he sees Ji-ho, asks, “Why isn’t Ms. Lee coming?” Ji-ho’s mother explains that they ran into Jung-in and Ji-ho can’t wait to hear her opinion. When his mother describes Jung-in as smart, meticulous and pretty, Ji-ho can’t keep from smiling. At lunch, Young-joo announces that it’s time for her to move so that she’s no longer involved in Jung-in’s personal issues. Jung-in credits Young-joo for leading her to Ji-ho and hopes that she’ll have to reward her friend one day. While Jung-in worries about Ji-ho’s mother, Young-joo brings up Eun-woo, “Are you sure you can be a mother?” When Jung-in explains that she has time before she has to worry about that, Young-joo asks if she’s keeping her options open. Jung-in brings up the topic of changing feelings and Young-joo tells her that while feelings can shift, human nature stays the same. Ki-seok calls Jung-in at that very moment and Young-joo shakes her head, “See? People never change.” Ki-seok wants to talk to Jung-in and promises to wait at her place until she comes home. Seo-in’s parents and Shi-hoon are now at Seo-in’s apartment, where Principal Lee lectures his daughter and son-in-law. When Principal Lee asks Seo-in to forgive Shi-hoon, she explains that she made her decision after much thought. Seo-in realizes that her father is convinced that Shi-hoon only abused her once when Principal Lee exclaims, “…it was a mistake. He wouldn’t have done it on purpose.” Seo-in announces that she’s proceeding with the divorce but Principal Lee argues that once her marriage is back on track, Seo-in can think about having a baby. Everyone is shocked when Seo-in blurts out that she’s already pregnant. The baby gives Principal Lee even more ammunition against Seo-in, who he now labels as “..immature and reckless.” Seo-in shouts, “Your daughter was assaulted…How much more must I endure for you to understand me?” After her mother guides a distraught Seo-in to the bedroom, Shi-hoon grins over the turn of events. Ugh. Alone with Seo-in, Mom apologizes for her husband, “How could I have lived with a man like that all these years?” Mom leaves when Seo-in agrees to speak with Shi-hoon privately. He kneels down and makes his plea, “I’m sorry…I’ll devote my life to you and our baby…So please forgive me this once.” When Seo-in refuses, Shi-hoon coldly reminds her that he won’t be the only one ruined by a divorce. Seo-in readily admits, “Revealing that you’re a son-of-a-bitch will also let people know that I’m a pathetic woman who only married for money.” Shi-hoon promises that he’ll agree to a divorce if he ever hurts Seo-in again. Seo-in’s answer is that she won’t press assault charges if Shi-hoon gives up his parental rights. Shi-hoon stands up and glares at Seo-in, “Then I choose to be an ex-con.” After Ji-ho puts Eun-woo down for a nap, he gets a text from Jung-in and tells his mother that he’ll be back. Jung-in is waiting outside and when she asks Ji-ho what his mother thought of her, he jokes, “…she said you’re ugly,” Jung-in punches Ji-ho in the arm and the pair walks away holding hands while Ji-ho’s mother watches from the open window. During their walk, Ji-ho encourages Jung-in to meet Ki-seok to listen to what he has to say. When Jung-in calls him incredibly patient, Ji-ho explains, “I trust you. That’s all.” EPISODE 24 Ki-seok takes Jung-in to the school garden where they first met. After admitting that he waited too long, Ki-seok places a box in Jung-in’s hand, “Let’s get married. What you think doesn’t matter. I’m choosing this for your sake.” When Jung-in tries to return it, Ki-seok puts his hands in his pockets and backs away. While Ji-ho sighs after a checking his phone, Ki-seok hugs an emotionless Jung-in. After Ji-ho drives his mother and Eun-woo back to his parents’ place, Ji-ho’s mother whispers to her husband that she saw the girl that Ji-ho likes, and they’re already holding hands. Ji-ho’s dad mentions that she’s pretty and then covers his mistake by insisting that all young women are pretty. When Seo-in’s parents get home, her mother tells Principal Lee how much he disappointed her and calls him despicable. She’s in tears because she knows that her husband is against the divorce because he want’s to hide Seo-in’s abuse. Seo-in’s mother weeps, “Divorce is nothing to be ashamed of. You should be ashamed that you’re a shallow-minded father who’s more concerned with what other people think.” She’s appalled by Principal Lee’s reaction, “Let’s hurry Jung-in’s wedding…No family would want a daughter-in-law with a divorced sister.” Jae-in stares at the engagement ring and scolds Jung-in for falling for such an old trick. When Jae-in asks if her sister still has feelings for Ki-seok, Jung-in confesses, “I was surprised to realize that I already have no feelings left at all for him.” The next day at work, Jung-in catches Ha-rin and Young-joo reading an online announcement about Seo-in’s pregnancy. They’re surprised when Jung-in runs into the conference room to make a call. Ji-ho hears about Seo-in’s pregnancy from Pharmacist Wang. Ji-ho can’t help but smile when Pharmacist Wang assumes that Jung-in’s family will be overjoyed when Jung-in marries in addition to the new baby. Ji-ho’s smile evaporates when Hyun-soo informs him that Ki-seok proposed. When Ye-seul walks into the back room later, she finds Ji-ho deep in thought and asks if he’s all right. At the bank, Ki-seok hands a corrected report back to Hyun-soo and wants to know, “Hey, did you pass on the news to Ji-ho?” At the television station, Seo-in has to play the happy expectant mother when she’s showered with congratulations. Shi-hoon’s receptionists are confused by the announcement after seeing how upset Seo-in’s mother was when she visited. Shi-hoon walks in while on the phone, basking in the attention that the announcement has generated. Ki-seok is at the bank when Ji-ho calls to ask for a meeting. Ki-seok tries to put him off but finally agrees to see Ji-ho that night. When Jae-in walks into Seo-in’s place and sees a large suitcase, she asks her mother if Shi-hoon is moving back in. Mom announces that it belongs to her and sighs, “Gosh, I’m so sick of this.” Jae-in wants her mother to promise that she won’t talk Seo-in out of divorcing Shi-hoon. Mom informs Jae-in that she plans to get a divorce too and Jae-in gets hit when she asks, “If you and Dad get a divorce, whom should I choose?” After they discuss school business, Principal Lee mentions his meeting with Ki-seok to Chairman Kwon. Chairman Kwon is agains pressuring their kids to get married since children usually go against their parents’ wishes. Chairman Kwon heard that Principal Lee has a grandchild on the way and advises, “Just enjoy that for now.” Principal Lee is afraid that Ki-seok and Jung-in will drag things out without their fathers’ help. Chairman Kwon reasons, “Then maybe they’re not meant to be,” and walks off with his usual scowl, but once he’s out of sight, his face breaks into a smile. Jung-in has to work late and texts Ji-ho just as Ki-seok arrives for their meeting. When she gets a text it’s from Jae-in, who reports that Ji-ho knows about the proposal. Jung-in runs out of the library and calls Jae-in, who hands her phone to Young-jae. Young-jae confirms that Ji-ho set up a meeting with Ki-seok but he has no idea where they went. Young-jae makes sure to tell Jung-in that Ji-ho will never let her down and explains, “I guess I wanted to brag about my buddy.” A smug Ki-seok starts off the meeting, “Hyun-soo, that blabbermouth, probably told you what happened. What more do you want to know?” Ji-ho has to calm himself before asking how long Ki-seok plans to make things hard for Jung-in. After Ki-seok calls Ji-ho an “obnoxious prick”, Ji-ho announces his plan to tell everyone about his relationship with Jung-in, starting with their parents. Ki-seok is certain that Jung-in’s family won’t welcome him but Ji-ho argues that Jung-in has already accepted him, which is what matters. After Ki-seok taunts Ji-ho about the humiliation that awaits him, Ji-ho leans back in his chair and announces that he’s giving up…on Ki-seok. Ji-ho won’t be respectful or considerate of Ki-seok anymore. Jung-in leans out of Young-joo’s window while waiting for Ji-ho, worried that he and Ki-seok may actually fight this time. Young-joo argues that most people will sympathize with Ki-seok but as soon as Ji-ho gets home, Jung-in runs upstairs. Jung-in rings Ji-ho’s doorbell just as he’s about to take a shower. Jung-in lets herself in and when Ji-ho walks out of the bathroom, she pulls him into a back hug. She suggests talking like that if he’s mad but Ji-ho points out that Jung-in isn’t the only one who was hiding something. Ji-ho offers to make some coffee but Jung-in wants a beer. Ji-ho can’t join her because he has to drive her home but Jung-in announces, “I’m going to sleep here.” Jung-in wonders, “Can’t I do that,” and when Ji-ho doesn’t answer, she puts his mind at ease and admits that she’s staying with Young-joo. When Ji-ho is ready to hear her apology, Jung-in explains that she only accepted Ki-seok’s ring because her guilt over the failed relationship kept her from throwing it back at him. Ji-ho accepts her explanation and Jung-in has to confess that she’s not as good as Ji-ho. Tears well in Jung-in’s eyes when she promises, “From now on, I’m going to try to become like you.” Ji-ho wipes away Jung-in’s tears, “You’re still such a fool.” Ji-ho breaks the tension when he leans across the table to kiss Jung-in and laughs when he fails to reach her. Jae-in is out with Young-jae when Jung-in texts that she’s staying the night with Young-joo. Jae-in doesn’t believe her and pressures Young-jae for Ji-ho’s address so that she can catch Jung-in and Ji-ho together and blackmail her sister for an allowance. Young-jae calls Jae-in a bully and refuses to tell her where to find Ji-ho. Back at Ji-ho’s place, there are empty beer cans and half eaten snacks in the dark kitchen. After Ji-ho turns off the lamp in the bedroom, he and Jung-in kiss in bed until the photo of Eun-woo makes her self-conscious. Ji-ho turns the photo around and his neatly hung laundry blows in the breeze as the night stretches on. COMMENTS Well, just as I expected, Jung-in was the one to take her relationship with Ji-ho to the next stage, which makes perfect sense. While Ki-seok and their fathers continue to marginalize her, Ji-ho waited for Jung-in to decide what it is that she wants without any pressure. Chairman Kwon’s warning that pushing their kids into marriage could backfire turned out to be true because Ki-seok and Jung-in’s father have forced Jung-in and Ji-ho to fight for their right to be together. And now they’re really together. As far as I’m concerned, the pivotal scene wasn’t in Ji-ho’s very dark bedroom, it was in the kitchen, when Jung-in confessed that Ji-ho has inspired her to become a better person. Jung-in was pained by her immaturity to the point of tears and promised to try to be more like Ji-ho. That’s what makes Jung-in’s relationship with Ji-ho so special, she wants to be a better person who’s worthy of his love. Isn’t that what true love should accomplish? Helping those involved to grow into better versions of themselves? I think that Jung-in’s relationship with Ji-ho has taught her what he already understands about love. Ji-ho is unselfish, patient, kind and loyal, just as his friend Young-jae described. It makes Ji-ho a great friend, father and boyfriend/future husband and Jung-in not only recognizes that, she appreciates it. However, Ji-ho has no more patience for Ki-seok, who has targeted Jung-in relentlessly in order to get his revenge on Ji-ho. That stare that Ji-ho leveled at Ki-seok took me by surprise and I’m more that ready to see Ji-ho fight back. Ki-seok is really playing dirty after Chairman Kwon sent him those photos but it accomplished what he wanted, Ki-seok finally proposed, sort of. I think it was pretty obvious how impressed Chairman Kwon was to see Jung-in in his house and it only confirmed how much he wants her as a daughter-in-law, probably even more than Principal Lee wants Ki-seok as a son-in-law. Speaking of Principal Lee, what a poor excuse he is for a husband and father. It confuses me how the Lee women, with the exception of Jae-in, have ended up with such disrespectful men. These are strong women who have ended up with men who treat them like property. But I think the tide is about to turn, led by a rebellious Jung-in who’s being forced to fight for her right to love Ji-ho. Shi-hoon is a thug who thinks that he just hit the jackpot thanks to the news about the baby. And Principal Lee again demonstrated his disturbing ability to ignore the truth in order to get what he wants, but this time it may have cost him his marriage. I couldn’t be happier because I’m pretty sure that man can’t even boil water by himself. What I can’t understand is why Seo-in hasn’t disclosed Shi-hoon’s staggering debts to her father. That alone should get Principal Lee to agree to a divorce because Shi-hoon’s financial ruin will certainly hurt the Lee family’s reputation almost as badly as Seo-in’s abuse. Shi-hoon is a ticking time bomb and there’s no way that Principal Lee will escape unscathed, nor should he.
